Welcome: Beginning this week we welcome two new vendors, Lauren and Ande of Lola's Botanicals and Katrina and Algis of Skinny Piggy Kombucha. I'm thrilled to have them: they will help round out our great lineup of products!
Ande and Lauren, from Southeastern Indiana, grow all the herbs they use in their teas, tinctures, and wellness care products. In addition to purchasing individual items from them, you can also become part of their CSH (Community Supported Herbalism), whereby you receive regularly scheduled packages of various wellness care and home care products. They will also offer hand-crafted soaps, made locally by a family member. I am sure you will be as delighted as I am with their many and varied items.
Katrina and Algis produce their own unique type of kombucha here in Cincinnati. A refreshing probiotic, non-alcohol beverage, it's both yummy, and good for your tummy. They will provide samples so you can try before you buy.
Farewell: We bid a fond farewell to Green GRRRL Wisdom, aka Karen Blocher. Last Friday Karen told me that she thought she had someone lined up to do our market but that it didn't work out. If you would like to order Karen's products to be shipped to your home, you may do so via her website https://www.greengrrrlwisdom. com/
Market Location: By adding new vendors, we have now outgrown our location in the church's lounge; therefore, beginning this Friday we will hold market in the Narthex, which is just inside the front entrance of the church.
Mahlon Update: Mahlon will not be at market this Friday because his Amish Community is holding a benefit auction and supper. The event, which is open to the public, benefits their community school. For further information you can check out this website http://www.adamscountytravel. org/ Mahlon will be at market the following Friday, May 13.
Market Start Time: Please be aware that vendors are required to wait until the 3:00 start of market to sell their items. Therefore, please wait to enter the market until the market doors open at 3:00. Thank you for your cooperation with this.
We thank you for your continued support of the market and especially your enthusiasm about the pre-order program. Your pre-orders help our vendors produce and bring to market what you want, thus making you happy, and cutting down on waste for the producers. If you are not yet familiar with the pre-order program, please see further details in the Previously Announced section.

Some of you are long-time readers of the newsletter; others are new to the market and are reading the newsletter for the first time. This section is included each week to bring your attention to important happenings around the market and around town.

I love our vendors for so many reasons, not least of which is the fact that they are so responsive to our customers. For example, Patti, who has been making a majority of her food purchases at LEWFM for many years, recently asked if we could have hummus at our market. Patti would prefer to purchase her food from our vendors rather than at the grocery store. Yes, we love our customers too, especially when they come to our farmers' market more than to the grocery store.
One of our Very Valued Vendors, Chef Gary Leybman, co-owner of The Pickled Pig, immediately said he would be happy to make hummus for our customers. True to his word, Chef
had hummus the next market day. His hummus was such a big hit that not only is he planning to bring it on a regular basis, he is asking customers to offer requests for their favorite type of hummus. I've put in my request for beet hummus. Did you know that hummus does not have to be made of chickpeas? Stop by his booth and put in your request. He will be glad to respond to you. Chef Gary will, of course, continue to offer his many varieties of fermented veggies and fermented beverages. He is working on some other yummy items he will be adding in the near future, so stay tuned.
Jenny the Pie & Much More Lady also listened to customers' requests when they asked for additional
types of cheeses. Jenny is now selling Canal Junction Farmstead Cheese made by the Schlatter family in Defiance, Ohio. Their cheeses have won regional awards, along with winning over our customers from the first week Jenny introduced the cheeses at our market. Pictured is Mrs. Schlatter making some of their award-winning cheese.
I can personally attest to the yummyness of the Canal Junction cheeses. Thus far, I have purchased the gouda and the cheddar and loved both of them. Want to try before you buy? Stop by Jenny's booth, where she does a tasting of each cheese. Be prepared to purchase several because it will likely be difficult to choose just one favorite.
As her name implies, Jenny has a plethora of other items for your delight, including baked goods, jams, doggie treats, and more. Something for everyone.

Pre-ordering Pays Off
Have you ever arrived at market to purchase your favorite item/s from your favorite vendor/s only to be disappointed because the vendor/s sold out of the item/s? Did you know that no longer has to happen? At LEWFM you can pre-order your items and pick them up any time during regular market hours. Pre-ordering not only pays off for you, it also helps the vendors know how much to prepare/harvest, which greatly reduces waste. Pre-ordering is a real win-win for all, and it only takes a few minutes of your time to plan ahead and place your order. Given the importance of Eating Well, getting into the habit of placing your pre-orders each week will likely become a high priority on your weekly To Do List.
There are two easy ways you can place your pre-orders, in person at market or via email. Here's how the email ordering works: Email me at LEWFMLOCAL@GMAIL.COM and ask to be added to the vendor email pre-order list. Each week you will receive an email from the vendors detailing the items they have available for you to order that week. Reply to their email, letting them know the items you wish to order, then come to market on Friday to pick up your items.

Produce Perks
For those who noticed the logo at the bottom of the newsletter recently and wondered what it means, here is the good news about a new program. Produce Perks is an incentive program that is meant to encourage and help those who receive EBT (formerly known as food stamps) purchase more produce. Produce Perks is a dollar for dollar match (up to $10), with the matching dollars used on produce. The Produce Perks website offers the following additional information:
Please help us spread the word about this very worthwhile program. One way to help get the word out is to stop by the market management booth to pick up brochures to share with those you know who receive EBT benefits. You could also leave brochures at your church, doctor or dentist's office, or any locations that would permit you to do so.
“Produce Perks” is an initiative modeled after a similar program in Cuyahoga County. Focus is on access and affordability of healthy fruits and vegetables for under-served consumers.
Produce Perks are incentive tokens given to customers at participating farmers’ markets who use an Ohio Direction Card (“electronic benefits transfer” or EBT card) to purchase food. A customer wishing to use their food assistance benefits can swipe their card at one central terminal, located at participating market’s information booths, and ask to withdraw a desired amount. The market provides tokens for the transaction and additional Produce Perks that can be spent on fruits and vegetables. As the name suggests, Produce Perks are only good for purchasing fruits and vegetables. All other tokens purchased with the Ohio Direction Card are good to use on eligible items at the market.
