Newsletter for Friday April 11, 2014

THIS WEEK'S MARKET
This week is Regular Market Day, with a full lineup of vendors.  For further details about this week's market, please see the Reminders section below.

The Summer Market season will start Friday May 2.  Beginning on May 2 market will be held every Friday from 3:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the market's year-round location at Cheviot United Methodist Church 3820 Westwood Northern Blvd.

NOTICES
  • We are sad to inform you that April 25th will be the last time Jo the Jam Lady will be at LEWFM.  While she's not hanging up her apron entirely, Jo will be scaling back and will no longer be participating in farmers' markets.  Jo has been a significant part of our market for a very long time and she will be hugely missed.  We love you Jo!

RECENTLY ADDED ITEM
One of the most loved vendors at LEWFM is Jenny Kettering of Angela's Homemade

Pies.  Jenny is loved by young and old, including Market Management (no, we're not old).  It's fun to watch children come to market with a dollar clutched in their little hands:  We know exactly where they are headed.  Their dollar buys them one of Jenny's famous cookies.  When Jenny started at LEWFM she was most famously known as Jenny the Pie Lady, but since then her product line has expanded to include a full line of baked goods, and later expanding further to include a variety of hand crafted cheeses from Kenny's Farmhouse Cheese.  Not wanting to leave out man's best friend, Jenny recently added dog treats, with plans to offer cat treats in the near future.  On the days market is held inside, we unfortunately can not allow Fido to come and pick out his favorite flavor.  But take heart because warm weather is just around the corner and we'll be moving market outside when weather permits.

OTHER UPDATES

Fox Run Produce and Learning Center will be bringing pork to LEWFM starting this Friday.  This will be in somewhat limited supply so check with Ame regarding how long she expects to have pork available.  Ame will also be bringing seed potatoes for those of you who want to try your hand at growing some of your own food.  If you're unsure about how to plant potatoes, Ame will be glad to give you some pointers.  Fox Fun also has a few spots remaining in their CSA.  This Friday will likely be the last day they will be taking new CSA members at our market.

And just in time for Spring planting, the following update comes from Village Green.

Ready, Set, Plant you Spring Garden!!  The Village Green offers local grown, non-gmo, heirloom varieties that are all organically grown.  Unlike most greenhouses The Village Green uses recycled material to reduce our footprint:  from re-used containers, homemade potting mixes and a rain water system for healthy plants.  This week we will have transplants for all your Spring greens from kale to collards to lettuce and more including herbs to jump start the growing season!  Also don't forget to browse through our Community Seed Library, we offer free seed for the community to grow with.

REMINDERS
While some of you are long-time readers of the newsletter, people who are new to the market are reading the newsletter for the first time; therefore, the Reminders section is included each week so new folks can see what's happening around the market and around town.

At the beginning of the winter market we made some changes in the way we are holding market.  This Friday April 11 (3:00 - 6:00) will be what we are calling a Regular Market Day, while the following Friday April 18 (4:00 - 6:00) will be what we are calling Pre-order Pick Up Day.  To help everyone easily adjust to the changes, we offer the following check list of what to do at market this week:
  1. Purchase all your food and non food items as you regularly do from the full line up of vendors who will be present this Friday.
  1. Place your pre-orders with the two vendors who will be participating in the Pre-order Market Days.  Please note that you will be required to pay for your items at time of ordering, at which time you will receive a receipt for your pre-order.  We even made it easy to locate these vendors by placing them side by side at the beginning of the market space.
That's it.  That's all you need to do in order to get into the swing of things in our brand new, improved way of holding market.

Please note the new time of the Regular Winter Market Days is 3:00 until 6:00 P.M.
