For those who are wondering:  yes, we will have market this Friday, March 29.  Newsletter for Friday, March 29, 2013.  The market's year round location is 3820 Westwood Northern Blvd. 45211.  Drive around to the back parking lot and enter through back door.  Thanks to Cheviot United Methodist for allowing the market to be held at their church.

THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHT
What can be better than warm cornbread just out of the oven?  Think that can't be beat:  well, Kate Cook from Carriage House Farm can top that.  Think whipped honey with a hint of cinnamon.  Oh my, if your mouth is not watering now it soon will be.  And, not only can you purchase the whipped honey from Kate, you can also purchase the cornmeal, along with wheat flour.  But that's not all.  Kate also sells the wheat berries, which you can either mill yourself into flour or they can also be prepared as you would any grain.  If you are really into eating locally, now there is no need to purchase rice or other grains from far away sources, you can purchase grains grown locally, nearly in our own backyard at Carriage House Farm in North Bend.

Ps;  For those who are new to the market, you might wonder about the people behind Kate in the picture above.  At LEWFM we have our very own licensed massage therapist, Danny ReckmanDanny offers chair massage each Friday during market.  What a great way to relax and treat yourself to some moments of bliss.

RECENTLY ADDED ITEMS
Julia and Tammy, the Treehuggers, continue to expand their offerings.  You can now purchase an array of essential oils from them.  Essential oils have many uses and an Internet search will provide a plethora of information.  Aromatherapy, household cleaning products, a natural way to freshen the air in your home, car, or office, pet care, and even uses in the garden are only a few of the ways essential oils can be used.

Julia and Tammy are also selling handcrafted wooden soap dishes.  Using a wooden soap dish actually helps prolong the soap by allowing the soap to dry between uses.  Because these wooden soap dishes have no stain or chemical finishes on them, nothing toxic will leach into your soap.  And, they come with a bonus:  you can meet the woodcarver who creates them.  They are made by our very own Charles Purdue.  Market shoppers with kids will know Charles as the person who staffs The Kids' Corner at the market.  Yes, Charles is a man of many talents. e

LETTUCE LIVE MORE SUSTAINABLY
Mari Ann's loom
Mari Ann Chell of Yellow Creek Weavers not only offers beautifully hand made rugs at our market, she now has an idea for re purposing your used sheets.  As we asked our vendors to think of ways they can help all of us Live More Sustainably, Mari Ann's creative mind started to work.  Here is her idea:  Recycle your clean, used sheets by dropping them off, during your market visit, at the Yellow Creek Weavers' booth.  Sheets with tears, thin spots, and even stains are usable.  (Please no paint or cleaning cloths).  Mari Ann will use the sheets to make beautiful hand made rugs.

REMINDERS
While some of you are long-time readers of the newsletter, people who are new to the market are reading the newsletter for the first time; therefore, the Reminders section is included each week so new folks can see what's happening around the market and around town.

Garden Claw
Great deal for gardeners:  Limited time offer has been extended!
There are times when something that seems too good to be true is actually true.  Granny's Garden School in Loveland is sharing their good fortune.  They recently received a donation of Garden Claws to be used for fund raising.  Usually selling for $25 - $30, Granny's Garden is offering them for $20, half of which will go to Granny's Garden School and, if you use code "LEWFM" when placing your order, the other $10 will go to Lettuce Eat Well Farmers' Market.  If you are unfamiliar with how awesome the garden claw is, watch the demonstration video here.

[it's the second video, further down the page, picturing the children with Granny]

After viewing the video you will likely want to order one for yourself and/or a friend.  You can order by credit card or by check.  You can pick up your garden claw at our market.  Details will be emailed to you after you place your order.  Remember to use code "LEWFM".  This offer is for a limited time.  For more information regarding ordering click here.

Learn How to Eat Local  -  Year Round:  For those who are interested in learning how to make food choices that are more environmentally sustainable, help is on the way.  It seems pretty obvious to most people that choosing to eat food that is grown within our local region is much more earth friendly than purchasing foods that are grown thousands of miles away.  If you are unsure of how to go about eating locally year round, you are invited to attend the upcoming Southwest Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association (SWOEFFA) conference.

In addition to learning to eat locally, the day long conference offers workshops on a variety of other topics (a total of 12 from which to choose) for both producers and consumers: Basics of Backyard Gardening, Cooking Without Waste, Permaculture, GMOs, Starting a School or Community Garden, and many more.  The keynote speaker will be Gary Cox, attorney from the Farm to Consumer Legal Defense Fund.  His topic will be "Give Local Food a Chance."  The conference is scheduled for Saturday April 13 at Gorman Heritage Farm in Evendale.  You can register and pay by check or you can do so online with your credit card.  For more information and registration form click here.
