Newsletter for Friday April 5, 2013.

While the market's year round location is Cheviot United Methodist Church 3820 Westwood Northern Blvd. 45211, the location at the church varies depending on other activities at the church and depending on the weather (sunny and warm, we're outside; stormy or cold, we're inside).  Just follow the happy voices and you'll find us.

THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHT
This week's spotlight shines on Erica Esham of ANAO Hummus, pictured above with two happy customers.  We are delighted to introduce the newest addition to our lineup of Very Valued Vendors.  Last Friday was Erica's first day at LEWFM and she was quite pleased with customer response.  We received many positive comments from customers who told us how much they enjoyed sampling Erica's yummy hummus.  Many purchased several varieties because they couldn't decide which one they liked best.

When we asked Erica to share some information about her products, she offered the following:

A.N.A.O. is a local company based in Cincinnati, Ohio. We are proud to produce and sell healthy products of the highest quality standards. All natural, all organic and locally sourced when possible. A.N.A.O. stands for; Always Natural, & Authentically Organic.

Our hummus is made from all organic ingredients that are wheat free, gluten-free, soy free, preservative-free, and low in sodium. (Our hummus is made in a kitchen with shared facilities, so we cannot guarantee that our food is gluten-free). We use only high grade oils such as organic, extra-virgin first-pressed & cold-pressed olive oils, no canola oils and no soybean oils. We also use local produce from a variety of farms and farmers with whom we have personal relationships and a knowledge of their organic practices. We use produce and herbs that are grown by farmers who use no pesticides, herbicides or chemicals.
One taste of A.N.A.O. Hummus will likely have you coming back for more.  And that's fine because Erica will be at market every Friday.  She's also working on several new varieties, one said to contain cinnamon.  Can't wait to sample that one.  Erica is quite responsive to customer feedback, so feel free to offer your ideas.  She is so creative that she might just take your suggestions and come up with additional items sure to please.

LETTUCE LIVE MORE SUSTAINABLY
All year we have been building up to the kick off of this year's summer market, which we are calling the Summer of Sustainability.  Because we see how essential it is for each of us to Live More Sustainably, we are focusing on ways we individually, and as a farmers' market, can promote ways to practice the 5 Rs:  Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Rot (compost), and Recycle.  We are now ready to unveil the events we have planned for the summer market.  Each of the five Fridays in May will have a specific focus pertaining to sustainability.

The first Friday of May will include an event we believe most everyone will want to attend.  eCycleIT will be at market that day to accept your old electronics, which they will reuse and/or recycle.  They guarantee that no part of any item will go into the landfill.  And, it's not just your computers; you can even bring in your old phones.  For more information about items they will and will not accept, and to learn about the other special events scheduled for the month of May, including Yellow Creek Weaver's program of re-purposing your old sheets, click here.

REMINDERS
While some of you are long-time readers of the newsletter, people who are new to the market are reading the newsletter for the first time; therefore, the Reminders section is included each week so new folks can see what's happening around the market and around town.

Garden Claw
Great deal for gardeners:  Limited time offer has been extended!
There are times when something that seems too good to be true is actually true.  Granny's Garden School in Loveland is sharing their good fortune.  They recently received a donation of Garden Claws to be used for fund raising.  Usually selling for $25 - $30, Granny's Garden is offering them for $20, half of which will go to Granny's Garden School and, if you use code "LEWFM" when placing your order, the other $10 will go to Lettuce Eat Well Farmers' Market.  If you are unfamiliar with how awesome the garden claw is, watch the demonstration video here.

[it's the second video, further down the page, picturing the children with Granny]

After viewing the video you will likely want to order one for yourself and/or a friend.  You can order by credit card or by check.  You can pick up your garden claw at our market.  Details will be emailed to you after you place your order.  Remember to use code "LEWFM".  This offer is for a limited time.  For more information regarding ordering click here.

Learn How to Eat Local  -  Year Round:  For those who are interested in learning how to make food choices that are more environmentally sustainable, help is on the way.  It seems pretty obvious to most people that choosing to eat food that is grown within our local region is much more earth friendly than purchasing foods that are grown thousands of miles away.  If you are unsure of how to go about eating locally year round, you are invited to attend the upcoming Southwest Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association (SWOEFFA) conference.

In addition to learning to eat locally, the day long conference offers workshops on a variety of other topics (a total of 12 from which to choose) for both producers and consumers: Basics of Backyard Gardening, Cooking Without Waste, Permaculture, GMOs, Starting a School or Community Garden, and many more.  The keynote speaker will be Gary Cox, attorney from the Farm to Consumer Legal Defense Fund.  His topic will be "Give Local Food a Chance."  The conference is scheduled for Saturday April 13 at Gorman Heritage Farm in Evendale.  You can register and pay by check or you can do so online with your credit card.  For more information and registration form click here.
