Newsletter for Friday June 14, 2013.

Some customers have asked us when we will be moving back to Harvest Home Park; therefore, we realize that not everyone has been made aware that we will be staying at Cheviot United Methodist Church throughout the summer.  Please help us spread the word about the market's correct location!

While the market's year round location is Cheviot United Methodist Church 3820 Westwood Northern Blvd. 45211, the location at the church varies depending on other activities at the church and depending on the weather (sunny and warm, we're outside; stormy or cold, we're inside).  Just follow the happy voices and you'll find us.

THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHT
This week's spotlight shines on Sacred Grove Farm, another example of a productive urban farm.  The plethora of produce from this farm is proof positive of what can be accomplished on a relatively small amount of land.  Using farming methods that work in harmony with nature results in an abundance of nutritious, and delicious, veggies and fruits.  Sacred Grove Farm is made up of Isaac Hartlaub and his wife Elizabeth.  At market you will also see their darling daughter Mave, along with Isaac's sister Wren.

We've added an excerpt from their Facebook page to give you an idea of the measures Sacred Grove Farm goes to in order to provide top quality produce to their customers.
We use organic and natural farming practices. We use no pesticides, herbicides, or synthetic fertilizers. We use minimal tilling practices to maintain a healthy soil full of beneficial micro-organisms, fungi and earthworms. We use compost, aged horse manure, and partially decomposed leaves for nutrients for the soil and plants. We start almost everything from seed. Some fruit, nut plants and maybe a few perennial vegetables and herbs we buy from reputable sources. These seeds are either organic, heirloom and a lot of times open pollinated. No GMOs!! We are happy to discuss any of these practices or anything else with you!

You might also want to follow Elizabeth's blog, where she shares more info and pictures, along with some delicious sounding recipes and useful tips, including how to use the stinging nettle they sell at market.  You can view her blog here.

RECENTLY ADDED
You spoke, we listened.  Many customers have been asking us when Mt. Kofins Olive Oil will be back, and when are we going to again have coffee at the market.  We are thrilled to announce that both items are now back.  Yay!  While you won't see Nick of Mt. Kofins or Chuck of La Terza Coffee at our market (due to their too busy schedules), you will see their much sought after products each week.  Thanks to the folks of Sacred Grove Farm who are now carrying these products at our market.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Does most of your food come from a farmer's field or a chemist's laboratory?  If your food comes in a box or bag listing ingredients you cannot pronounce, it is likely the food had its origins in a laboratory.  If this sounds unappealing to you, there is a simple remedy:  Do your food shopping at the farmers' market where you can speak directly to the producer and learn how the food was grown.  You can also purchase synthetic chemical free soap, shampoo, and moisturizing cream at our market.  Now you can kick the synthetic chemical habit.

REMINDERS
While some of you are long-time readers of the newsletter, people who are new to the market are reading the newsletter for the first time; therefore, the Reminders section is included each week so new folks can see what's happening around the market and around town.

The Romans Family Farm, who has been a Very Valued Vendor at LEWFM since its first year of operation, are returning again for this summer's market.  YAY!  They will again be offering their Eating Seasonally CSA (Community Supported Agriculture).  If you are unfamiliar with the concept of a CSA, there are many online sites where you can learn more, such as the Local Harvest Website http://www.localharvest.org/csa/    Eating Seasonally CSA is currently taking applications for their 2013 CSA.  For further information you can visit their Facebook page here.
