Newsletter for Friday July 19, 2013

Some customers have asked us when we will be moving back to Harvest Home Park; therefore, we realize that not everyone has been made aware that we will be staying at Cheviot United Methodist Church throughout the summer.  Please help us spread the word about the market's correct location!

While the market's year round location is Cheviot United Methodist Church 3820 Westwood Northern Blvd. 45211, the location at the church varies depending on other activities at the church and depending on the weather (sunny and warm, we're outside; stormy or cold, we're inside).  Just follow the happy voices and you'll find us.

THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHT
This week's spotlight shines on our Very Valuable Volunteers.  Numerous people help the market be a happening place and this week we want to publicly thank them.  We recently welcomed a new addition to the volunteer lineup.  Zach, a local high school student, came to us via our post on VolunteerMatch.org.  Zach helps us with setup and by staffing the management booth.  He is also very helpful to the vendors, helping them unload their merchandize and set up their tents.  Nikita, also from VolunteerMatch.org, works behind the scenes developing marketing materials to help publicize the market.  The next time you notice a flier for an upcoming event at market, you will be looking at Nikita's creative handiwork.

We also want to thank Peg and Sharon, two market customers turned volunteers.  Peg has been a frequent helper for several years, both with set up and staffing the market management booth, and just generally sharing her smile with everyone.  Sharon, a more recent addition, volunteers one Friday each month, taking on whatever tasks need to be done on market day.  Over the years we have been fortunate to have numerous musical groups to entertain us.  Their gift of song has added much to enliven the market and we are grateful to them.

Our thanks also goes out to Louise (the daughter of Mari Ann of Yellow Creek Weavers, a market vendor) who is in the process of revamping one of the market's banners.  This will be a huge help in getting the word out about the market's year round location.  Sometimes volunteers just happen to be at market and jump in and help out.  This happened last week in the form of Moshe the bus driver.  Moses was a special guest vendor last week, attending market as part of the Metro Bus special event.  Not content to "only" give tours of the Metro Hybrid Bus, Moses was a huge help with set up and take down, and an all around super help to the vendors who can always use another pair of hands unloading all their merchandize.

If we have inadvertently missed anyone, know that all help is greatly appreciated!  And, if you wonder if we could use more volunteers the answer is YES.  If you have a couple hours anytime between 1:30 and 7:30 on any Friday just show up and pitch in.  Or, if you prefer to work more behind the scenes that type of help is also needed.  Anyone wishing to volunteer can contact us here.   We thank you in advance.

REMINDERS

While some of you are long-time readers of the newsletter, people who are new to the market are reading the newsletter for the first time; therefore, the Reminders section is included each week so new folks can see what's happening around the market and around town.

I Love My Farmers' Market Celebration marks the fifth year American Farmland Trust has hosted a summer-long event to honor our nation's hardworking family farmers and to raise the national awareness about our bountiful farmers' markets.  The celebration encourages consumers to pledge to support family farmers by making at least $10 of their food purchases each week at their farmers' market.  Already spend more than that at the farmers' market?  How about increasing your weekly purchase by an additional $10?  In addition, you are invited to stop by the market management booth for details about how you can enter to win a market bag filled with market goodies, along with $10 in Market Bucks.  You can also pledge your support for your favorite farmers' market (and we sure hope it's LEWFM) at the Love My Farmers' Market website lovemyfarmersmarket.org
