While
the market's year round location is Cheviot United Methodist Church
3820 Westwood Northern Blvd. 45211, the location at the church varies
depending on other activities at the church and depending on the weather
(sunny and warm, we're outside; stormy or cold, we're inside). Just
follow the happy voices and you'll find us.
We are about 10 weeks into the American Farmland Trust's I Love My Farmers' Market Celebration and you have been speaking loudly with your constant support of LEWFM. LEWFM has remained in the Top 3 statewide and Top 12 nationwide since the beginning! Regardless of where we finish, we are very proud of the fact that you love your local farmers' market and the wonderful vendors who give so much of themselves to provide you with quality local products each and every week.
American Farmland Trust offers the following announcement regarding their fifth annual celebration of our Nation's farmers:
American Farmland Trust offers the following announcement regarding their fifth annual celebration of our Nation's farmers:
"I Love My Farmers Market Celebration works to raise the national awareness about our glorious farmers markets. Farmers markets provide the vital link between eaters and where our food comes from and as such highlight the importance of protecting farmland.Since 1980, American Farmland Trust has championed family farmers and helped permanently protect more than 5 million acres of farmland. We have been losing more than an acre of farmland every minute to development, this celebration works to halt that trend.Participants pledge dollars they intend to spend at their farmers markets. One pledge = A commitment to spend $10 at your farmers market that week. The Top 100 most celebrated markets will receive a special logo honoring their achievement, “No Farms, No Food”® gear, and recognition on the Celebration’s website. In 2013 we plan to secure at least $1 million dollars in pledges to support family farmers and local farmers markets nationwide."
I Love My Farmers Market Celebration will close on September 9, 2013. Until then, pledges can be cast EVERY DAY at www.lovemyfarmersmarket.org.
We appreciate each vote for LEWFM, as they let our vendors know how
very much you love them and appreciate all their hard work and wonderful
products.

Our newest vendor, Learning to Live Sustainably (L2LS), will be adding two product lines this week, one new and one returning. Just in time for school lunch packing, you can now purchase Snack Sax and Sandwich Sax. Using these products eliminates the need to constantly spend your money (and the Earth's resources) on use-once-and-throw-away plastic bags. And, your kids will be able to show others how cool they are by living more sustainably through the use of re-useable sandwich and snack bags. These items are handcrafted in Xenia, Ohio by Lee Rose.
L2LS will be selling Mt. Kofinas Olive Oil beginning this week. For those of you who might be unfamiliar with this quality product we offer the following background information. Mt. Kofinas Olive Oil originates from olive groves owned by the Semertzides family and their relatives who have lived in Greece for many generations (some now reside in Cincinnati). After the olives are harvested and cold pressed in Greece, the oil is shipped to Cincinnati where the Semertzides bottle the oil. Words from their website explain the care they take in bringing us the finest quality products.
IMPORTANT HAPPENINGS AROUND TOWN - Ora's Pottery will not be at market this week. Ora will return next week.

You are invited to stop by the L2LS booth to sample Mt. Kofinas Olive Oil, including a number of infused varieties. Then, you will know first hand why people rave about this product.
Mt. Kofinas’s all-natural, pure extra virgin olive oil begins with olives hand gathered at their peak for maximum flavor. The olives are cold pressed (not chemically extracted) soon after harvest to assure superior taste and low acidity. Any oil below 1% acidity level qualifies as “extra virgin,” but Mt. Kofinas’s Extra Virgin Olive Oil has an acidity level between .2% and .4%. This is another reason why Mt. Kofinas stands out as a premium quality olive oil.
The result is a healthy olive oil with a distinct natural green color and a distinct, full taste without the bitterness seen in lower quality olive oils.
You are invited to attend a very important forum this Saturday, August 17 to discuss the dangers of genetically
engineered (GE) foods and the campaign to label them.
Let Me Decide: Why Food Labeling Matters will be at the downtown branch of the Cincinnati library at 2:00 p.m. It's an opportunity to meet like-minded individuals who are standing up for our right to know what is in our food. We will be meeting in the Huenefeld Tower Room. Join the campaign to get Senator Brown to stand firm with the sustainable food community, not Big Agribusiness, to make GE labeling the law. He's said he wants to look at national legislation to label GE foods. Now it's time for him to co-sponsor the Genetically Engineered Right to Know Act! He won't act until we do, so will you join us this Saturday? For more information or to RSVP http://act.foodandwaterwatch.org/site/Calendar?view=Detail&id=106461&autologin=true
