Because LEWFM takes a community approach to the topic of Eating Well and Eating Locally, this week's spotlight shines on an upcoming event that is of utmost importance within the local food scene. The following quote, from the book Financing Our Foodshed: Growing Local Food With Slow Money by Carol Peppe Hewitt, clearly states how imperative it is that we obtain our food from local sources. To accomplish this requires a change in the infrastructure that provides food on a local level. Providing the means to build this much needed infrastructure requires that we literally put our money where our mouth is.
We are aware that money can be a touchy subject to discuss; therefore, we proceed cautiously. Questions to ask oneself: Do I know how my financial institution is investing my savings? Do they invest my money in ways that support my values? If not, what can I do about this? If you have come to a place in your financial life where you are ready to explore using your money to finance your values, if Carol's quote (above) stirs something in you and you are moved to do something to help support the growing of the local food movement, or if you are simply interested in hearing more about the concept of Slow Money, you are invited to attend the upcoming event sponsored by Local Loans for Local Foods: A Slow Money Group. Of particular interest at this event: Our very own Greener Portions Aquaponics will be one of four presenters that day. For more information or to RSVP, see flier above.
One of the most compelling reasons to eat local may be that if we don't, one day soon we may wake up to discover that there are no local dairies or farm stands - no local food to be had at all - leaving us completly dependent on whatever the food industry decides to ship to us - on their own terms.

REMINDERS
While some of you are long-time readers
of the newsletter, people who are new to the market are reading the
newsletter for the first time; therefore, the Reminders section is
included each week so new folks can see what's happening around the
market and around town.
Winter Market: Although a few more weeks remain of the summer market, we are busily working on the planning of the winter market. Some changes will take place which we believe will enhance the overall market. We are in the final stages of planning and will be including updates in future newsletters, detailing all the specifics. So, please stay tuned!

Are you interested in purchasing a Farmers' Almanac, or a Farmers' Almanac calendar? If so, talk with Jenny of Angela's Homemade Pies booth for the latest edition. And while there you can purchase some yummy homemade desserts, along with artisan cheeses from Kenny's Farmhouse Cheese. Also, Jenny is working on a new item she will hopefully be ready to unveil soon. Keep checking in with her.
