Newsletter for Friday April 19, 2013.

While the market's year round location is Cheviot United Methodist Church 3820 Westwood Northern Blvd. 45211, the location at the church varies depending on other activities at the church and depending on the weather (sunny and warm, we're outside; stormy or cold, we're inside).  Just follow the happy voices and you'll find us.

2012 CSA Member with Nancy Romans

THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHT
The Romans are coming, the Romans are coming.  YAY!  Yes, the Romans Family Farm and their Eating Seasonally CSA will again be part of our market.  The Romans will be at market this Friday to promote their CSA and to sign up customers for the 2013 season.  If you want to have a happy smile on your face like the man in the picture above, stop by the Romans booth at market this week and ask about how you, too, can become a member of their CSA.  If you are unfamiliar with the concept of a CSA there are many online sites where you can learn more, such as the Local Harvest website  http://www.localharvest.org/csa/

In addition to promoting their CSA, the Romans will also be selling tomato plants this Friday.  They will have some that might be familiar to you and some new ones to try, including many heirloom varieties.  For an in-depth description of the tomato plants they will have available for sale, and for further information about their CSA, you can visit their Facebook page here   And, if we're real lucky they might bring some winter squash to market this week.  So, if you have used up all of the winter squash you purchased from them last fall, stop by to replenish your supply while they last.  The Romans will likely only be at market this week (and perhaps next week), and then will return in late May or early June for the remainder of the summer market season.  WELCOME BACK, we love you!

NOTICES
  • Don Clark of Happy Bungalow will not be at market during the month of April

EXTRA, EXTRA READ ALL ABOUT IT
Mohr Animal Acres has been busy all winter creating their food truck, and its unveiling is scheduled to take place at Lettuce Eat Well Farmers' Market this Friday if everything goes according to plan.  The following post was taken from their facebook page:
So excited! Just spoke with the health department inspector. He likes what he saw in the food truck, and is scheduled to return on Thursday afternoon for final inspection. It looks like Bistro de Mohr will be on the road to Cinci Friday.
We don't yet know what Bistro de Mohr's complete menu will be but we suspect it will include meat raised on their farm, along with soup and beverages.  For the latest announcements you can see their facebook page here  And for updated announcements about the market you can visit the market facebook page here

RECENTLY ADDED
Erica Esham, the very talented and creative founder of ANAO Hummus, recently added another selection to her lineup of yummy hummus.  Erica listens closely to her customers and busies herself fulfilling their wishes.  Her newest addition, made from beets, is a result of some customers asking her to make a variety of hummus that does not contain beans.  She completely sold out of this newest variety when she introduced it to customers last week.  She plans to bring more this week to fill your requests.  And, if you have a request for a certain type of hummus, she will be happy to receive your suggestions.

AND THE LUCKY WINNER IS
The smiling face in the picture belongs to Karen Kelley, collecting her winnings of $20 in Market Bucks from Peg, a Very Valued Volunteer.  Karen's first stop in her fun adventure of spending her Market Bucks was Franciska's booth, where she chose from breads, herbal teas, jarred items of mustard, pasta sauce, salsa, soups, and on and on.   She then traveled throughout the market having fun spending the remainder of her prize.

If you would like a chance to win $20 in Market Bucks, stop by the Market Management booth to fill out your free raffle ticket each week throughout the winter market (through April).  And, if you bring a new person to market you will receive an additional free raffle ticket that week.  The last Friday of the month we will draw a ticket at random.  Winner need not be present at time of drawing.

SUMMER OF SUSTAINABILITY
With the month of May fast approaching the excitement about the summer market is mounting.  Fortunately the month of May has 5 Fridays, as we will need all five to accommodate all the special events we have planned.  The first Friday of May you will be able to bring your old electronics to market to have them recycled by eCycleIT, a company that guarantees that all components are reused or recycled, with none going into the landfill.

Check out the EVENTS page on our website for the latest updates on the LEWFM Summer of Sustainability!

REMINDERS
While some of you are long-time readers of the newsletter, people who are new to the market are reading the newsletter for the first time; therefore, the Reminders section is included each week so new folks can see what's happening around the market and around town.

Garden Claw
Great deal for gardeners:  Limited time offer has been extended!
There are times when something that seems too good to be true is actually true.  Granny's Garden School in Loveland is sharing their good fortune.  They recently received a donation of Garden Claws to be used for fund raising.  Usually selling for $25 - $30, Granny's Garden is offering them for $20, half of which will go to Granny's Garden School and, if you use code "LEWFM" when placing your order, the other $10 will go to Lettuce Eat Well Farmers' Market.  If you are unfamiliar with how awesome the garden claw is, watch the demonstration video here.

[it's the second video, further down the page, picturing the children with Granny]

After viewing the video you will likely want to order one for yourself and/or a friend.  You can order by credit card or by check.  You can pick up your garden claw at our market.  Details will be emailed to you after you place your order.  Remember to use code "LEWFM".  This offer is for a limited time.  For more information regarding ordering click here.
