hereNewsletter for Friday May 3, 2013.

While the market's year round location is Cheviot United Methodist Church 3820 Westwood Northern Blvd. 45211, the location at the church varies depending on other activities at the church and depending on the weather (sunny and warm, we're outside; stormy or cold, we're inside).  Just follow the happy voices and you'll find us.

THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHT
Electronics Recycling Event this Friday!!  For weeks we have been spreading the word far and wide that we will be having an electronics recycling event at market on Friday May 3.  We have encouraged folks to clean out their house, clean out their office, or anywhere there are old electronics that need a good home.  As you can see by the above picture, Peg, one of our Very Valued Customers, has taken us seriously.  We hope you will, too.  Load up your truck, van, car, or even your little red wagon with old computers, printers, fax machines, phones, etc. and bring them to market this Friday.  eCycleIT will be there to accept your items, which will either be reused or recycled.  They assure us that nothing will go into the landfill.  For a flyer listing the items eCycleIT will accept click here.  (Please, NO CRT monitors or TV's)

SUMMER OF SUSTAINABILITY
The idea of drastically lowering the amount we send to the landfill is only one aspect of what we will be focusing on during this year's summer market, which we are calling the Summer of Sustainability.  The kick off of the Summer of Sustainability starts this week.  We invite you to join in the fun and educational opportunities at the market.  Throughout the month of May you will learn about renewable energies and how to incorporate them into your own home, how to turn your yard into edible landscape, how to compost, how to eat locally, and much more.  You will even be able to purchase a rain barrel so as to be able to save, rather than waste, precious rain water.  To see the full lineup of special guest vendors and what they will be sharing at market each week, click here.

NOTICES
  • Bistro de Mohr, aka Mohr Animal Acres will be at market this week.  At this time, they attend market only every other week, but hope to attend every week later in the summer.  In addition to their eggs, meats, soaps, local maple syrup, and other items, they now serve ready to eat foods.  And if everything works as planned, they will also be selling La Terza coffee by the bag.  We know that will please all of you who have waited patiently for coffee to return to the market.  This week's ready to eat menu includes the following:
Hamburger/Cheeseburgers
Spanish Chorizo w/pico de gallo
Tomato Basil Chicken Sandwich
Tortilla Soup
Hog Balls, Potato Wedges and Sweet Potato Wedges
Coffee
Iced Tea
  • Jo the Jam Lady will be at market this Friday; however, she will not return again until May 31.

For a full listing of our vendors and their products, check out our Vendors.

REMINDERS
While some of you are long-time readers of the newsletter, people who are new to the market are reading the newsletter for the first time; therefore, the Reminders section is included each week so new folks can see what's happening around the market and around town.

The Romans Family Farm, who has been a Very Valued Vendor at LEWFM since its first year of operation, will be returning again for this summer's market.  YAY!  They will again be offering their Eating Seasonally CSA (Community Supported Agriculture).  If you are unfamiliar with the concept of a CSA, there are many online sites where you can learn more, such as the Local Harvest Website http://www.localharvest.org/csa/    Eating Seasonally CSA is currently taking applications for their 2013 CSA.  For further information you can visit their Facebook page here.

Angela Ebner from Permaganic will be one of our special guest vendors during the month of May kickoff of the Summer of Sustainability.  Angela will share her expertise in the area of permaculture, a sustainable way to use your land.  Angela and her husband Luke also work with youth in the Over the Rhine area of Cincinnati.  They use gardening as a way to help the kids in many ways.  Angela emailed us recently asking us to help spread the word about their fundraising effort.  Following is information about their campaign that runs only until June 10, 2013.
Please consider clicking on the following link to view/read and help fund our Youth Interns this year.  The goal we set is for $1,000, which funds one teen. Or help us exceed the goal and unlock a matching grant.  All donations are tax-deductible.

If you are looking for an event that will be fun for individuals or families, you are invited to attend Gorman Heritage Farm's Farm to Fork Savor the Season on Saturday May 4.  This would be a great way to introduce children to a working farm, or to treat yourself to some time to leisurely stroll the grounds, enjoy the delicious foods prepared by expert chefs, and maybe even pick up some cooking tips that you can use at home.

Garden Claw
Great deal for gardeners:  Limited time offer has been extended!
There are times when something that seems too good to be true is actually true.  Granny's Garden School in Loveland is sharing their good fortune.  They recently received a donation of Garden Claws to be used for fund raising.  Usually selling for $25 - $30, Granny's Garden is offering them for $20, half of which will go to Granny's Garden School and, if you use code "LEWFM" when placing your order, the other $10 will go to Lettuce Eat Well Farmers' Market.  If you are unfamiliar with how awesome the garden claw is, watch the demonstration video here.

[it's the second video, further down the page, picturing the children with Granny]

After viewing the video you will likely want to order one for yourself and/or a friend.  You can order by credit card or by check.  You can pick up your garden claw at our market.  Details will be emailed to you after you place your order.  Remember to use code "LEWFM".  This offer is for a limited time.  For more information regarding ordering click here.
