Newsletter for Friday May 31, 2013.

Some customers have asked us when we will be moving back to Harvest Home Park; therefore, we realize that not everyone has been made aware that we will be staying at Cheviot United Methodist Church throughout the summer.  Please help us spread the word about the market's correct location!

While the market's year round location is Cheviot United Methodist Church 3820 Westwood Northern Blvd. 45211, the location at the church varies depending on other activities at the church and depending on the weather (sunny and warm, we're outside; stormy or cold, we're inside).  Just follow the happy voices and you'll find us.

YA TAMU (Derek and customers)

THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHT
Something to ponder:  Does petroleum belong in my car or on my skin?  Much of the skin care and hair care products on store shelves contain petroleum based ingredients.  Do you really want to continue to put petroleum on your skin and hair?  If not, you will likely want to check out two of our most loved vendors:  YA TAMU and The Tree Hugger Company.

YA TAMU, which is Swahili for sweet, gentle, and tender, is one of our newest vendors.  Derek Terry, chemist turned entrepreneur, developed a line of skin and hair care products that contain no synthetic chemicals.  YA TAMU offers moisturizing creams, shampoos, and conditioners, including a leave in conditioner which contains mint grown locally by Sacred Grove (one of our market vendors).  Being a chemist, Derek is quite knowledgeable about products that are currently on the market.  When asked what makes his products superior he offered the following insight, explaining that just because a product says it contains Shea Butter does not necessarily assure its quality.

Shea Butter possess many natural properties that moisturize, heal, and protect the skin.  Most store bought "Shea Butter" products only contain a small amount of natural Shea Butter which greatly reduces the effect it has on the skin.  Our creams and body butters are at least 60% Shea Butter and 40% natural carrier oils without the dangerous synthetic chemicals and fillers of other products claiming to be Shea Butter.

Equally as conscientious about the quality of their products, Julia and Tammy, the Treehuggers, offer market shoppers a wide array of synthetic chemical free products.  In addition to a variety of hand and bath soaps, they offer a laundry bar and especially timely, a gardener's soap.  They also brought back their insect repellant, just in time for outdoor activities.  Not to leave out the family dog, they offer a doggie soap and doggie treats.  And for the outdoor feathered friends, they make a bird seed wreath.  For those of you who know the benefits of using essential oils, Julia and Tammy sell a variety of essential oils.  And if you don't see the one you want, just ask because they have many other scents available.

NOTICES
  • Mari Ann Chell of Yellow Creek Weavers will not be at market this week.  She will return June 7.

    REMINDERS
While some of you are long-time readers of the newsletter, people who are new to the market are reading the newsletter for the first time; therefore, the Reminders section is included each week so new folks can see what's happening around the market and around town.

The Romans Family Farm, who has been a Very Valued Vendor at LEWFM since its first year of operation, are returning again for this summer's market.  YAY!  They will again be offering their Eating Seasonally CSA (Community Supported Agriculture).  If you are unfamiliar with the concept of a CSA, there are many online sites where you can learn more, such as the Local Harvest Website http://www.localharvest.org/csa/    Eating Seasonally CSA is currently taking applications for their 2013 CSA.  For further information you can visit their Facebook page here.
