"Back to the Boulevard"
Westwood Northern Blvd, that is
Beginning this week, the market will be at its warm, winter home at Cheviot United Methodist Church, 3820 Westwood Northern Blvd.

THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS
What a wonderful and fun Grand Finale last week's market was, as we celebrated the last market day of the successful 2012 Outdoor Market Season.  We were delighted to see so many customers enjoying the festivities.  Even though it was a bit soggy outside, we were dry and cozy inside the barn at Harvest Home Park.  The day was quite fun and festive.  The fun included a Scavenger Hunt (to introduce customers to what will continue to be available during the winter market), a costume contest, trick or treat for kids and adults, along with baby farm animals brought to us from Mohr Animal Acres.

During a break in the rain, Fred Farnsley, our great photographer, (Thanks, Fred!!) was able to get a great picture of the vendors and market helpers, some of whom were in disguise.  If you look closely you can even see the Blues Brothers and Carol Burnett, along with other imaginative characters.

Fred also snapped this precious picture of one of our young market shoppers getting a close up and personal view of the farm animals who visited market.  We wish to thank Mohr Animal Acres for bringing some of their goats, sheep, chickens, and even some beagle puppies to market for all to enjoy.  While the farm animals didn't seem to mind the wet weather, we certainly appreciate the Mohr family for their extra efforts to help us celebrate the last summer market day in such a fun way.  The kids loved to interact with the animals, and the adults enjoyed seeing the delight on the kids' faces.

This young guy (Ezra Reidel) has a happy smile on his face because he received Ten Market Bucks as the winner of the costume contest.  We suspect he will spend at least some of them at Angela's Homemade Pies booth because it's well known that that is his favorite booth and that his favorite items are the cookies.  Maybe next year he should dress as the Cookie Monster.

THE WINTER MARKET BEGINS THIS WEEK
While last week was certainly a fun-filled time, the fun   -   and good food  -   are far from over.  We are now geared up for the Transition to the first day of the Indoor Winter Market.  Beginning this Friday, Nov. 2, the market will be held in its warm indoor location at Cheviot United Methodist Church, 3820 Westwood Northern Blvd.  We offer a huge thank you to the folks at Cheviot UMC for welcoming the market back again this winter.  We so very much appreciate this wonderful and warm setting.

To encourage our vendors' customers to follow them to the winter market, we will be having an ongoing monthly drawing.  Here's how it works:  Each time you attend the winter market, stop by the Market Management booth to fill out your free raffle ticket and place it in the basket provided.  At the end of market day the last Friday of each month during the winter market (Nov. through April) we will draw a ticket and the lucky customer will win $20 in Market Bucks, which they can use at any of the vendor booths (no expiration date).  And, as a way to introduce more people to LEWFM, customers who bring new folks to the market will receive one additional raffle ticket for each new person they "bring" to market (they don't actually have to come in your car).

SEASONAL & CHANGING PRODUCTS/ITEMS
In addition to many of the summer-market vendors who are continuing, we have added several new vendors to the lineup for the winter market.  You will see some new faces among both the craft vendors and the food vendors.  If you plan to purchase gifts, buying them from local artisans who make environmentally conscious crafts and value added food items can be a way to delight the recipient of the gifts while also helping to increase the local economy and help protect the environment.

VERY SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
We are very pleased to announce that we now accept Food Stamps at our market.  If you would like to use your food stamp benefits to purchase items at our market simply bring your EBT card to the Market Management Booth.

We hope everyone will help us spread the word about this great news.  Please share the information with neighbors, friends, and co-workers so food stamp beneficiaries will become aware that they can now purchase fresh produce and other healthy food items at the Farmers' Market, directly from the people who produce the foods.
