Sherry and sons with Kate/Carriage House Farm and Julia/Tree Huggers

THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHT
This week's spotlight shines on one of the market's most loyal customers.  Sometime back we interviewed several customers who attend the market on a very regular basis.  We wanted to know what brings them back week after week to Lettuce Eat Well Farmers' Market.  Our interview with Sherry Reppert-Couch certainly sheds light on her consistent patronage of the market.

LEWFM:  What originally brought you to LEWFM?
Sherry:  A few of the vendors set up at our grade school and I learned the location of the market and signed up for the newsletter.  Since leaving college I had been looking for a chemical-free market that cares about healthy living and choices.  Helping to support local farms by joining a CSA.  Thank you Romans and Mohr Animal Acres for all your hard work!
LEWFM:  What keeps you coming back to LEWFM?
Sherry:  The vendors and variety are wonderful.  Having chemical-free choices is a big draw for my family.  I want to teach my sons to be aware of what they are putting into their bodies.  Talking and sharing with the vendors and other shoppers gives me something to look forward to each week.
LEWFM:  What is your favorite aspect of the LEWFM?
Sherry:  The produce and other items I buy are truly fantastic but visiting with everyone and sharing ideas along with learning new recipes is my favorite aspect of the LEWFM.  There is a true market spirit at LEWFM because of the wonderful vendors who give of themselves each week.
LEWFM:  How do you use what you purchase at LEWFM?
Sherry:  At Christmas time I buy many items to fill gift baskets for my friends.  Some of the items I purchase are olive oil, baked goods, jam and this year I will be able to add many of the Tree Huggers products.
LEWFM:  What else would you like to share about yourself &/or your experiences at LEWFM?
Sherry:  A nice thing about our market is that my boys love to come with me.  Charles Purdue [Kids Korner] shares so much of his creativity with the children who visit the market.  This makes my shopping experience even better, knowing they are having fun and are safe.

We all offer Sherry a huge thanks for being a long-time friend and patron of the market.  Sherry also shares her love of the market with her friends and co-workers, teaching them how and why to shop at the Farmers' Market.  Keep watching the weekly newsletter because Sherry also submitted a fantastic collection of recipes which she has gleaned from many sources over the years.  You will see Sherry's recipes in future newsletters, giving you ideas of how to use the fresh foods from the market vendors.

NOTICES
  • Jo the Jam Lady will not be at market this week.  She will return on January 4.
  • Mohr Animal Acres attends market every other week.  They will be at market this week and ask that if you have egg cartons to please bring them to market,  as they can put them to good use.

SEASONAL & CHANGING PRODUCTS/ITEMS
The recent cold snap and the extremely high winds have challenged the produce growers.  While some produce might be down for the count, some have weathered the storm and continue to prosper, thanks in large part to the extraordinary efforts of our persistent producers.  Thank them as you purchase your locally grown veggies from them this week.

For a full listing of our vendors, their products, the weeks they attend market, and their services including:

  • Kids & Krafts (available starting at 4:45), where the kids can have loads of fun so you can leisurely shop the market

HAPPENINGS AROUND TOWN
Local Loans for Local Foods (Cincinnati's Slow Money group) will be hosting an event open to those who might be interested in making or receiving low interest local loans for the purpose of increasing our local food enterprises.  This is a no-commitment event, open to all who have an interest in attending.

If You:
• Have a local food enterprise and have dreamt about expansion "if only...” or
 are a local food entrepreneur who could make use of a low-interest loan;
• Have capital (it needn’t be much) that you are interested in lending to support our local foodshed;
• Are a community member interested in this initiative;
• Have a slightly different need or resource-to-offer related to increasing our local food sovereignty (i.e, land you would like to have used for producing food, or a farmer seeking land, or access to a commercial kitchen, etc.:

REMINDER
Remember to fill out your free raffle ticket each week at the Market Management booth. At the end of market day the last Friday of each month during the winter market (Nov. through April) we will draw a ticket and the lucky customer will win $20 in Market Bucks, which they can use at any of the vendor booths (no expiration date).  And, as a way to introduce more people to LEWFM, customers who bring new folks to the market will receive one additional raffle ticket for each new person they "bring" to the market (they don't actually have to arrive in your car.)

DID YOU KNOW?
We wish to thank those kind folks who have come forward to help out at the market.  If you would like to join the fun, space remains for additional volunteers.  Sharing just 2 hours of your time once or twice a month will be a big help and go a long way to continuing to offer a vital service to the community.  If you're available to lend a hand at the Market any time between 2:00pm and 7:30pm on Fridays, or during the week for more behind the scenes activities, check out the link below to contact us.
