THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHT

This week's spotlight shines on Julia Rothwell and Tammy Friedman of The Tree Huggers Company.  What began as a desire for chemical free soaps has evolved to include a wide variety of personal care products, household cleaners, insect repellent, and even doggie treats and birdseed wreaths.  Julia and Tammy are quite environmentally conscious; therefore, as they expand their product lines all items continue to be synthetic chemical free.  They are also environmentally friendly in the way they encourage their customers to reuse the spray bottle in which they package their household cleaner:  They offer refills for only $2.00 per bottle.  Quite a savings, which they pass on to their customers.

NOTICES

Lisa of Naturally Yours Bakery will not be at market this week.  She will return on June 29.

Kevin from Skirtz & Johnston returns to market this Friday after a 2-week vacation.  Kevin will be bringing a variety of delicious artisan breads.  And remember, they offer a Frequent Buyer card, where after buying 10 loaves the 11th loaf is free.

SEASONAL & CHANGING PRODUCTS/ITEMS 

We are now in a kind of in between season where lots of lettuces, salad greens, stir fry greens, and other spring season veggies are still at market, while we are also beginning to see the very early stages of garlic and other early summer produce.  And for those who are part of the Romans Eating Seasonally CSA, we got our first peek at that beautiful red round veggie that seems to be everyone's favorite.  At this point the tomatoes are still in short supply; however, the wait for a more plentiful supply of tomatoes won't be too much longer.  Please be patient and the delicious, succulent tomatoes will certainly be worth the wait.  

Just a reminder that if you would like to get in on the Romans Eating Seasonally CSA there are still a few spaces remaining.  Nancy indicated that she would be prorating the price for those who are signing up after the first pick up date.  You can stop by their booth at market and ask for details.  You can also visit their Facebook page by clicking here

Other produce we have recently seen at market includes garlic scapes, green onions, raspberries, sugar snap peas, and beets.  Please remember that Mother Nature's harvest cannot be perfectly timed,  so you are invited to come to market ready to be pleasantly surprised to see what each of the vendors have gleaned from their labors in the fields.

Our plant vendors also bring herbs, both cut and potted; vegetable plants (tomato, pepper, and others as available), and a variety of beautiful potted plant arrangements.  You will also find many native plants, such as golden seal, wild ginger, prairie dock, joe pye weed, solomon’s seal, bishops cap, and many more (a total of 23 different species), along with a few varieties of non native outdoor plants (black eyed Susan, lily of the valley, etc), and a few house plants.

READY MADE FOODS

At our Outdoor Market, we now have ready made food available. Featuring two vendors alternating weekly, our meats and sandwiches are great for a treat while you shop or as a take-home dinner for your family! This week, our ready made food vendor will be:

THE FOOD BUS:  Leslie, of Meadow Maid Cheese, will be preparing hamburgers, cheeseburgers, and grilled cheese sandwiches. The Food Bus will be at market this Friday, June 22.

GRILLING BY LOGAN:  Weather permitting, Logan, of Mohr Animal Acres, will be grilling a variety of meats from Mohr Animal Acres on June 29.

REMINDER
Remember to stock up on your eggs, meats, cheeses, and other items from Mohr Animal Acres because they will be at market every other week throughout the Outdoor Market Season. They will not be at market this week.  They will return on June 29.

Licensed Massage Therapist Danny Reckman provides chair massages on-site. After a hard week at work, a relaxing massage could be the perfect start to your weekend!

KIDS & KRAFTS
Charles Purdue is a natural with the kids: They gravitate to him and his hand made Native American Flutes, "tape drums" and other fun games and craft activities he brings to market so kids can have loads of fun while their parents peacefully and leisurely shop the market. Parents tell us their children, who hate to go to the grocery store love to go to the Farmers' Market so they can hang out with Charles.
